Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Onsite Corporate Wellness Coach April 2013-Sept 2020

In this corporate wellness role, I did just about everything, including 1:1 coaching, small group coaching, lunch and learn presentations, and keynotes/workshops. I taught exercise and meditation classes, wrote a motivational coaching newsletter, facilitated wellness challenges, and worked with specific teams on wellness initiatives.

During my time at BCBS of MA I worked with over 2000 employees, delivering thousands of 1:1 coaching sessions and hundreds of presentations on various wellness topics. I created presentations on more than 30 topics including series on stress mastery, mindfulness, positive psychology, behavior change, motivation to exercise, orthopedic wellness and more. I’ve thought deeply about most things related to well being.

Mass General Brigham, Professional Coach June 2021- part of the OMCOSS Team (Office of Mediation, Coaching, Ombuds, and Support Services) responsibilities include providing 1:1 and group wellness coaching for employees of Mass General Brigham

EG America via Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Wellness Coach and Coordinator Dec 2021- responsibilities include helping the HR department of EG America to strategize, communicate, and engage employees in their wellness program. In addition to my formal training, I’ve read more than 100 books on psychology, coaching, habit change, positive psychology, and mental well being. TED talks, articles, videos, and podcasts on well being often occupy my free time.

Work Experience

Outpatient Orthopedic Physical Therapist: I’ve worked in a few different clinics around the Boston area, and have used my physical therapy education and experience in the fitness industry and corporate wellness settings.

As a personal trainer, my biggest niche was working with people who had joint pain, injuries, or surgeries.

As a corporate wellness coach, I developed a series of presentations around keeping your joints healthy (orthopedic wellness), coached many individuals who had a goal of decreasing joint pain, worked with people on ergonomic set up, and taught exercises classes aimed at specific joint limitations.

I’ve been in front of the room thousands of times since 1995, with almost every type of audience.

Experience

Summerbridge via Americorps: I started teaching science & physical education to middle school students for 3 years.

Boston University: Then, I spent 5 years dissecting and teaching gross human anatomy labs.

Muscular Therapy Institute (MTI)/ Cotrtiva: I taught anatomy and physiology to massage therapy students.

Towns Sports International/NASM/ACE/Reebok University: Teacher of personal trainers (15 years), I taught nearly 20 different seminars ranging in length from 4 hours to 4 days and covering nearly every aspect of fitness.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts: In a corporate wellness setting, I created over 30 different lunch and learn presentations on health and wellness related topics including motivation to exercise, mindfulness, positive psychology, well being, behavior change, stress mastery, orthopedic wellness, weight loss and more.

Kindred Coaches in partnership with Wellcoaches: Coach Trainer. Taught the Wellcoaches Behavior Change Agent curriculum to volunteers in the Baltimore area who wanted to decrease healthcare disparities and support their community through the Kindred Coaches program connected to Memorial Episcopal Church in Baltimore, MD.

Wellcoaches Faculty: I’m now teaching coaching skills and coaching psychology to future health and wellness coaches for Wellcoaches, which is one of the top coaching schools in the nation.

One of my Superpowers is translating “science” or complex concepts into simple accessible ideas.

And I think this seed was planted when I first began teaching science to 5th graders.
